Kate Van Suddese is a Seascape/Landscape Artist based in Durham City. Kate has exhibited her luminous and distinctive work nationally for over 25 years with many pieces held in private collections in the UK and abroad.
“Someone asked me recently why I painted and I could only say “because I must”. I have been working on seascapes for years and my fascination with them has never waned. The Sea is such a wonderful catalyst for every emotion experienced, a space of contrasts, finite and infinite, a bridge between reason and dreams. I strive always to capture beauty, light, power and drama.”
Kate works in oil on canvas producing small introspective pieces and also larger panoramic visions. She works in a bold, colourful and dramatic style infused with light and movement! A large part of her inspiration comes from the wonderful North East Coastline she grew up with and her childhood memories of the area. Often work will be inspired by poetry, a line in a song or something as simple as a fleeting glimpse of light and colour that needs to be painted .
